Veterans Affairs offers veterans, veteran spouses or surviving spouses the Aid and Attendance benefit. The benefit is for applicants who need financial help for in-home care or to pay for an assisted-living facility or a nursing home. The disability does not have to be a result of military service. Aid and Attendance is paid to applicants who are eligible for a VA pension and meet service requirements, certain disability requirements and income and asset limitations.
