Wear Purple to Raise Alzheimer’s Awareness

By June 9, 2016Uncategorized

You might be noticing an influx of people wearing purple this month. June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month and purple is the official color of the Alzheimer’s movement. By raising awareness, it is hoped the stigma associated with dementia can be erased. Alzheimer’s is a disease that isn’t going away any time soon, and its numbers are growing rapidly. Awareness can help reduce the cost of dementia care, and continued research may bring it to an end.

You can help raise awareness by:

  • Going purple for the month of June.
  • Organizing a dress-down day at school or work, asking participants to donate $5 to “dress down” for the day and wear purple.
  • Changing your Facebook profile to purple, using the link available at http://alz.org/abam/#goPurple
  • Using the following hashtags on social media accounts:
    •  #EndALZ
    • #IGoPurpleFor
  • Joining the “Longest Day” Movement on June 20. From sunrise to sunset on the longest day of the year, create or join a team in support of Alzheimer’s awareness. Your team can find fun ways to raise awareness like:
    • Dance
    • Walk
    • Bowl
    • Garden
